April 2025

Dear Families,

New Jersey public schools are required by the Department of Education to administer the New Jersey Student Learning Assessment (NJSLA), a state-sponsored assessment that measures student achievement in English Language Arts (ELA) and mathematics for students in grades 3 through 9. This year, Piscataway students are required to take two assessments in ELA and three in math. Science will be assessed only in grades 5, 8, and 11.

Here is the schedule for when students will be assessed:

NJSLA Assessment NJSLA Date NJSLA Time Make-up Days
Grade 3 Math May 12-May 14 9:30-11:30 AM May 19-21
Grade 3 ELA May 15-May 16 9:30-11:30 AM May 19-21

This schedule has been planned to minimize, as much as possible, the impact on classroom instruction.

Students will use their school-issued device for testing. If any condition affects your student’s ability to take the test, please provide a hard-copy letter with your signature (no emails or forms) to your student’s principal a minimum of five days before your student is scheduled to be tested. If you have any questions, contact the principal.

Information about the NJSLA and NJ Student Learning Standards can be found on our district Web site, www.piscatawayschools.org, under the Parent Center (Assessments and Benchmarks). We thank you for your assistance and support.

Sincerely,

Dr. William F. Baskerville, Jr.                                                        Anne Papenberg
Assistant Superintendent for C&I                                               Principal, Grandview School
