Room 12 update

                              Winter Highlights

Welcome to a peak inside the world in our room!!

Here in Room 12, we’ve been doing some very exciting thingsand have some exciting plans to come. We have learned how to add two and three digit numbers without and with regrouping, and are beginning to subtract two and three digit numbers with and without regrouping. As we celebrated the New Year, we set goals for ourselves and have been working to achieve them on a daily basis. We’ve made some fantastic progress!

We studied the important contributions made by Dr. Martin Luther King, and learned about the bravery of a very special and history-making little girl called Ruby Bridges.

We have been learning to analyze characters and other important story elements in Readers Workshop and have been able to begin using these strategies and techniques in our own writing.  We’ve written and worked hard on revising and editing Gripping realistic fiction stories with some very impressive success. We’re about to start poetry reading and writing, and are very excited about this.

Coming up in our classroom is also our Winter unit of penguin study, exploring fiction, non-fiction and interesting facts and information about penguins. We’ll do a lot of reading about penguins and weave this into our study about character development and problem/solution  craft that exists in good literature. In addition, February 14th is Valentine’s Day, and those who participate will exchange cards and have a small celebration for this holiday. We’re all looking forward to the 100th day of school which will be on Thursday, 2/15/18. We’ll see many children and adults dressed as 100 year olds or people wearing the fashion of the times 100 years ago, the year 1918. We’re so excited about this!

In Social Studies, we’ve  studied Economics in a Unit Called ‘Money, Money, Money’, that was quite fun. We learned about needs, wants, supply, demand, producers and consumers, saving and income. We’re starting to study the continents and bodies of water on Earth.

In Science, we studied Landforms and different forms of water.

In Room 12, we love to read and write, and are doing a wonderful job advancing our reading levels and writing scores as we learn different craft moves.

We are a supportive, cohesive and interactive classroom family and we enjoy working together each and every day!!
